So this book is supposedd to be like a manga, right? fortunatly, I read a manga called Kuroshitsuji or in english Black Butler. It follows a young boy named Ciel Phantomhive, who is head of the household at the age of thirteen. His parents were murderded three years before. and so he summoned a demon and made a contract with it, saying that if it would help him obtain revenge against his parent's murderer, and do so while playing the role of an elegant butler, it could have his soul. So the whole manga/anime is based on their andventures. This book sounds alot like that, so when I read it, I'll give you a full fledged report.
I purchased Bitch Heiress Samurai Butler on a whim, with the idea of giving it to my 11 year old daughter to read. However, I thought I should check it out first.
I started turning the pages and just like that- I was hooked. Engrossed in a world of Japanese Yokai (demons) living side by side with humans, enchanted swords, Yakuza hitmen, Ninjas-and just about everything else you could possibly imagine.
The plot is basically about a rich teenage girl with a tragedy in her past who acquires a Samurai bodyguard and how their relationship progresses while he protects her against an array of human and non-human adversaries.
I found it strangely erotic and wonderfully inventive but its true strength lies in the characterization. Each of the lead characters are multi layered who skilfully unfold as the tale progresses-often with surprising results. The Bitch Heiress herself is particularly strong, there's a hint of Lisbeth Salander about her (the girl with the dragon tattoo) and her Samurai Butler who protects her is something out of true myth- a despairing, bonded demon in human form paying a price for a tragic past whom human love redeems-even if that love appears to be unrequited (it isn't).
According to the blurb this novel is part of a new wave of Manga type tales entering the Western market, and as this is structured for sequels I predict the Yokai of Japan may soon be as commonplace as the vampires of Transylvania in places like Louisiana, New York, Maine, Seattle, and TV screens and films the world over.
This is a terrible piece of writing. The author obviously put much work into it, but this is just not a good work.

I really enjoyed this manga-style novel, enough that i immediately went and bought the second in the series. I will be following this series avidly.

I honestly wanted to like this book, but the writing was terrible. Honestly, I couldn't even get through the first few chapters. And don't be fooled by the book cover, the inside pictures were terrible. I think this author really needs to improve her writing ability, perhaps spin her idea through another draft or two.
This is a fun story and a quick read. I had enjoyed reading it, it was surely packed with action.
